We then drive up to Sapa before heading south by Russian Jeep on the dirt road towards Su Pan (a village that is home to a minority tribe), where we arrive one hour later. Our journey will provide us with some spectacular views over the Sa Pa valley with its terraced rice fields and the Fan Si Pan peak. We then go down into the Tay village of Ban Ho, where we enjoy a refreshing swim in the river, before having lunch in a local house. In the afternoon, we trek along the western slope of the valley until we reach the village of Xafo. We will stay here overnight in a beautiful bamboo stilt house, socializing with the inhabitants. There are only about 300-400 members of the Xafo minority, making it one of the smallest minority communities in Vietnam...and also one of the most distinct and interesting!

In the early afternoon we cross a pass to another valley where we will stay overnight in bamboo huts in the Red Dao village of Sin Chai. Our dinner is prepared and spent in a local house. There are three generations living in the house and everyone is very welcoming and eager to talk to you – obviously with a helping hand from the guide!
